-2013-2014 Budget Information

Dear Parents, Care Givers, and Community Members:

Safety and Security Update

Today students at BMS spent a portion of the morning in a modified lockdown. Prior to the start of school a staff member found several .22 gauge empty shell casings on the floor outside the cafeteria. The students who were in the cafeteria in the morning were gathered and questioned. The police were contacted and assisted in a thorough search of the building. A K-9 unit from the State Police was contacted to assist in the search. Once it was determined that there was no credible threat, the school resumed normal operations. Police remain on hand at the school for the duration of the day. We continue to seek assistance in identifying the individual who brought the shell casings to school.

We live in a time of heightened anxiety and great concern. I ask for every parent and guardian’s cooperation in ensuring safe environments at our school. It is critically important that our schools are safe and that our students feel safe. When a student comes to school with shell casings, that sense of safety is endangered. We need to work together and I ask all parents and guardians to be aware of the kinds of items students carry in their pockets and their backpacks as they come to school. These kinds of items have no place in schools.

Today’s event provoked anxiety for many. I appreciate the patience of our parents and guardians who were nervously awaiting updates as we conducted a very thorough search.

In the case of inclement weather, every attempt will be made to operate schools.  However, in our judgment, whenever it is not safe to operate the buses, schools will be closed.

In the event that weather conditions worsen after pupils have arrived at school, it may be necessary for an unscheduled early dismissal (click for times).  Should this occur, you will be notified by telephone by our automated voice message system and appropriate announcements will be broadcast over the above media.

You may also sign up to receive text or email notifications on your cell phone when weather related cancellations, announcements, or other notifications have been posted from the following media:
