BHS Summer Reading Assignment

Each Bethel High School student must read at least 2 BOOKS. Students enrolled in honors or AP English courses for 2013-14 have a separate assignment. Follow the required book list and summer reading requirements for the course as posted on our website. Please see the Honors & AP summer reading webpage for specific assignments.

All Summer Reading is due the first day of school: Wednesday, August 28, 2013

Book 1: Select a classic or any award-winning book

* Check the suggested resources (linked below) and Bethel Public Library’s Teen Room for suggestions

Book 2:  Free choice

*  Any book of your own selection

Please note: Students must not select a book they have read before.

As you read over the summer, please take reader-response notes; a formal journal is not required. During the first week of school, your English teacher will give you an assessment on your summer reading texts. Be prepared to analyze the author’s style, themes, and literary devices. Be prepared to make connections and evaluate the literary merit of the texts. This assignment will count as 2 quiz grades for the 1st Marking Period of English.
