Writer's Workshop

Our classrooms are writing communities. In grades K- 3 we devote a special one-hour block of time dedicated to Writers' Workshop.

Here are some of the processes you will see in all Writers' Workshop classrooms:

  • Children write often and for extended periods of time in writers’ notebooks. They write about meaningful, self-selected topics.
  • Children write personal narratives, poetry, non- fiction, how to books, etc
Children use mentor texts and study authors’ craft to improve their writing.
  • Teachers confer with students to help them edit and make revisions in their pieces.
  • Students publish their work and celebrate their writing accomplishments on a regular basis.
