Board of Education Adopts
Last night our Board of Education adopted a set of goals that enable us to keep focus on what’s most important – learning and teaching. I applaud our Board of Education for its laser-like attention on our vision and mission:
1. Every child will be part of an active learning environment and every teacher will be learner focused.
2. Bethel Public Schools will develop the strongest professional teaching force possible.
3. Technology will be a catalyst for the improvement of teaching and learning, communication, and data management.
4. The appearance, maintenance, and safety of our school buildings will mirror our educational values and the aspirations we hold for our children.
The goals that were adopted are ambitious and highlight the most important work that needs to be done this year to improve student achievement. If you have been following the recent trends in education then you already know that we are in an unparalleled era of change. The curriculum, assessment, and accountability reforms adopted by Connecticut are dramatic and call all educators to a deeper level of understanding and higher level of performance. These changes, as they become the norm in Bethel, will also push our students to achieve more. There will be opportunities in the coming months for community members to gather with our Board of Education and administration to talk about these changes in more depth.
