R.M.T. Johnson Elementary School is a member of the Bethel, Connecticut School System. Our namesake, Ralph M. T. Johnson, served as the Superintendent of Schools in Bethel from 1946 until 1962. The school opened in September 1980 as a K-6 elementary school, with 35 classrooms. Since that time, Johnson has been reorganized to house all the Grade 4 and 5 students in the Bethel system. Johnson is proud of its facility and the education that we offer our students. Our dedication to providing a well-rounded educational experience drives us to continually strive to improve our curriculum and professional development. In addition to the core curriculum offered in their classrooms, students in Johnson have the opportunity to explore many different areas in our "Specials" classes, including Art, Computers, Physical Education and Music. Johnson boasts a top-class Media Center, named for George "Pop" Dayton, who served as a custodian and school crossing guard for over thirty years at the old Grassy Plain School. We have an active I.G. Program and have a support staff that offers Resource, Speech & Language and Guidance support to our student population. |
