Goal
#1: To increase student achievement at all grade levels.
Objective
- Continue
the early reading initiative at the primary levels.
- Begin
secondary reading initiative at BHS and BMS.
- Increase
the number of BHS students participating in the Advanced Placement
and College Credit courses from UConn and West Conn.
- Increase
the number of students from Proficient to Goal in the CMT and the
CAPT by 10%.
- Decrease
the number of students in Basic and Below Basic levels in CMT and
CAPT by 3%.
- Implement
the Technology Plan.
- Implement
the federally mandated Health and Wellness initiative.
Goal
#2: To improve instruction at all grade levels.
Objective
- Provide
well-trained, caring staff who are prepared to address academic, social-emotional,
creative, and developmental needs of all students.
- Enhance
Professional Learning Communities focused on the use of student performance
data to improve instruction.
- Examine
specific curricula for its ability to promote maximum student achievement
and to prepare students fully for contemporary challenges.
- Examine
the academic achievement of Bethel’s boys and young men with
the intention of providing instruction and curriculum that motivates
them.

#3: To reduce racial, ethnic, and economic isolation
Objective
- Provide
professional development to all staff to further prepare them to teach
students whose first language is not English.
- Provide
opportunities for students and staff to develop their understanding
and respect for the variety of cultures, religions, languages, and
traditions represented in our school district.
- Provide
the resources to further develop the ELL services to students and
teachers.
- Begin
formal study of World Languages in grade 4, and provide after-school
opportunities for students to be introduced to other languages and
cultures.

# 4: To encourage greater parent and community involvement.

- Communicate
with parents and community about the needs, accomplishments, and future
plans for the school district.

#5: To provide cohesive leadership as a Board of Education.
Objective
- Understand
and demonstrate the BOE’s statutory roles and responsibilities
relative to other Bethel boards and to the district administration.
- Continue
to improve communications through an enhanced web site, the Report
to the Community, cable access programming, and other methods of sharing
information.
- Participate
in at least one Board capacity- building workshop at the state and/or
national levels.
- Review
the staff hiring and evaluation processes with the district administration.

#6: Monitor and maintain school facilities in order to provide safe,
energy-efficient, and appropriate learning environment for all students
