Kathleen Rockwell, Supervisor, Reading/Language Arts

Kathleen Rockwell, Supervisor of Reading and Language Arts, has been an educator for over thirty years. In 2000, she came to Bethel to serve as Dean of Students at Johnson School. After three years at Johnson School, Mrs. Rockwell became Supervisor of Reading and Language Arts. In this position, Mrs. Rockwell directs Bethel’s reading and writing curriculum areas and oversees the English as a Second Language program.

Starting off as a fourth grade teacher in Community School, Prospect, Connecticut, Mrs. Rockwell has had extensive elementary school experience. She has taught both fourth and fifth grade as well as multilevel classrooms. During her tenure in Prospect, Mrs. Rockwell co-facilitated the BEST Program and completed a number of special projects under the direction of the Superintendent of Region #16. One notable project was serving as a writing coordinator. While in Prospect, Mrs. Rockwell was recognized as Teacher of the Year.

Mrs. Rockwell graduated from Southern Connecticut University, New Haven, Connecticut, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. She attained her Masters Degree in Educational Foundations from Fairfield University, Fairfield, Connecticut. Most recently, Mrs. Rockwell attended University of Hartford’s 6th Year Program in Supervision and Administration.

When Connecticut State Department of Education began its portfolio requirements for Teacher Certification, Mrs. Rockwell participated in its development. Over a five year period, Mrs. Rockwell helped to guide and facilitate this program to its current reality. She has been both a seminar leader for new teacher in-services as well as a trainer of portfolio scorers.

In her current position, Mrs. Rockwell enjoys many aspects of her job. This includes the day-to-day challenges that help ensure each student in Bethel has a superior reading and writing program. Going into a classroom, working with both students and teachers continues to be the most cherished part of Mrs. Rockwell’s day.
