Speech-Language Pathologists

Our speech-language pathologists (SLPs) provide special education services to children with a wide variety of speech and language disorders.

Speech-language pathologists:

  • Identify and evaluate students with speech, language, and related problems.
  • Plan and conduct activities to improve a student's speaking, listening, and other language skills.
  • Collaborate with parents, caregivers, teachers, and other professionals in understanding and meeting a student's speech, language, and academic needs.
  • Monitor and document the effectiveness of treatment and student progress.
  • Provide early intervention services to students by conducting hearing screenings, participating in SRBI teams, and consulting with staff and parents.
  • Write reports to describe student speech-language assessments and progress.
  • Train and supervise paraprofessionals and ABA providers.

The development of age-appropriate speech and language skills is essential to the learning process and to a student's social and emotional growth. Children must be able to comprehend the language, express their thoughts, request explanations from the teacher and produce speech that others can easily understand.

The Bethel School District provides a continuum of services for students who demonstrate a need to improve their speech/language skills. It is just one of the many programs we offer in support of students who may have special needs. We hope you will find this information helpful in understanding what the program is and how it can help your child.
