DIGITAL STUDENT PODCASTS Students in the digital student course created informational podcasts based on core curricular topics or other areas of special interest. Students listened to a variety of podcasts to analyze their components, before setting out on their script-writing journey. Students then completed graphic organizers to organize their ideas and wrote expository scripts, focusing on interesting leads, strong points about their topics, lots of elaboration, and meaningful conclusions. Students also focused on fluency, voice, and word choice. After peer conferences about the content of their scripts, students learned how to use GarageBand to create different tracks to record their voices, music, and sound effects and they learned how to edit these tracks for the best auditory presentation. Students also learned how to convert the GarageBand files to MP3 files to make their podcasts more portable, able to be easily posted onto a website or loaded onto iPods or other MP3 players. Sample podcasts (MP3 format):
