WORTHY OF AWARDS

Robotics Lego League with Mrs. Salerno - The King Cobras, one of our rookie teams, received the Champions' Award. The Champions' Award is the most prestigious award that any team can win. The Champions' Award celebrates the ultimate success of the FIRST mission and FLL values. It measures how the children inspire and motivate others about the accessibility, excitement, and wonders of science, technology, and engineering while demonstrating respect, encouragement, and continued gracious professionalism. As the winning team they receive the honor of serving as a valued role model for the FIRST and FIRST LEGO LEAGUE Program.

The Evolution Einsteins, also a rookie team was awarded the Innovative Robot Design Award. When evaluating teams for this most prestigious award, judges look for teams whose work stands out and makes them say “wow!”. Judges interview teams to learn their strategies for solving missions and their understanding of the design process. They also evaluate the robot’s mechanical design, degree of innovation, and programming effectiveness to further assess overall design quality.

The Busbots, our experienced team was presented an award for teamwork. Teamwork is critical to succeed in FLL and it is the key ingredient in any team’s success. This award is presented to the team whose members best demonstrate extraordinary enthusiasm and spirit, exceptional partnership, the utmost respect for their own teammates, and support and encouragement of fellow teams. They demonstrate confidence, energy, strong problem solving skills, and great group dynamics.

Madeline K. and Paris W. recently won the Women's History Month Essay Contest and were presented with savings bonds. Pictured here is Madeline, all smiles!

Congratulations to the our middle school mock trial team who traveled to New Britain Superior Court to compete in the final four of the Connecticut Middle School Mock Trial championship. Bethel MS defeated the reigning state champ, Our Lady of Mercy from Middletown in the semi-final round and moved to the finals to face five time state champ King Philip Middle School of West Hartford. Stepping up their already outstanding effort and performance, our team defeated King Philip MS to WIN the STATE CHAMPIONSHIP!

The Middle School joins our High School Team as the current State Mock Trial Champions. This is a first for Bethel and a first for any town in the state. Please join me in congratulating the following students who have once again, represented our town so well. And have once again, demonstrated Bethel's awesome academic ability. We are all very proud of their achievement.

Essay Contest Constitution Day Winner

Congratulations to 8th grade Bethel Middle School student, Alejandra, who has won second place in Connecticut’s Constitution Day essay contest. Each year on Sept. 17th, a day set aside to recognize the birth date of our Constitution, the Connecticut Consortium for Law & Citizenship Education, Inc. invites Connecticut students of all ages to enter its annual Constitution Day essay contest. Alejandra impressed the state judges with her response to the following question: Using specific examples of current Constitutional issues in our country, write a letter to the Constitutional Convention delegates and suggest what they should include in the Constitution, which would prevent problems that have occurred since it was written in 1787.
